Permits

All electrical work performed requires an Electrical Permit from NEIC.

• Deck
  • Attached to House – NEIC Forms
  • Stand Alone – Zoning Permit
• Demolition
  • Demolition of building – Zoning Permit
  • If building is connected to sewer, the line must be capped and inspected by Sewer Department, call 570-473-1992.
• Fence
  • Replace existing all or partial fence with new in same location and at the same height – No Permit Required
  • Install new or change location/height – Zoning Permit
• Pool
  • All pools require a barrier to unauthorized entry. In-ground pools require a fence. Above-ground pools require a fence or a removable ladder.
  • NEIC Typical Above-ground Code Compliant Pool
  • In-ground – NEIC Permit and Electrical
  • Above-ground with filter or any electrical component – NEIC Permit and Electrical
  • Above-ground – Zoning Permit
• Roof
  • All roofing projects – NEIC Permit
• Siding
  • No permit required.
• Shed
  • Please see Zoning Map and Chapter of Northumberland Borough Code Book for property setbacks.
  • Attached to house – NEIC
  • Stand Alone
    • Up to 999 square feet – Zoning Permit
    • 1,000 square feet and over – NEIC
• Garage
  • Attached to house – NEIC
  • Stand Alone
    • Will have Electricity?
      • Yes – NEIC and Electrical
      • No – see Stand Alone Shed
• Signage
  • State Road – permits from both PennDOT and the Borough, start with PennDOT Sunbury Office.
  • Borough Road

      • No – Zoning Permit
